Catalog
Description: Students present an integrated summary of
course topics via an oral and written capstone project presentation.
Mission: The
mission of the accelerated major in Management is to provide the CPS student
with relevant, contemporary management theory in a practical, real-world
framework. In this way, students can
apply what they learn in their regular workday activities. Most of our students are content experts in
their chosen business function.
However, because their academic preparation has been interrupted by
personal and/or career commitments, they have seldom been exposed to the
fundamentals of management. Although
many are promoted into managerial positions, (or aspire to be), they are often
left with only in-house or external seminars as the basis for learning
management science. The student in the
accelerated Management major develops relevant, applicable skills within a
solid theoretical framework of Management Science.
Purpose: The
purpose of this course is to allow the student to demonstrate the entire body
of knowledge and skills gained in the program by preparing and presenting a
comprehensive senior thesis which covers elements of the whole body of
coursework.
Objectives: Students
who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. Develop a ten-minute presentation
covering the content of the student thesis.
2. Discuss the outcomes of the course of
study in terms of what the student learned about and wrote in the thesis.
3. Use "PowerPoint" to generate appropriate
visuals to enliven the presentation.
4. Speak from a well-developed outline in a
conversational manner.
Course
Outline:
The only
in-class activity for this course is the thesis presentation. Students are assigned a class session to
present, and on other nights serve as an audience for their peers. They also complete other assessment
activities.
General
Assignments and Evaluation of Student Work:
The primary
assignment is the formal thesis presentation, along with submission of the
written thesis document. There may be
other assessment activities conducted as part of the program assessment,
including student journals and/or post-tests.
There are no
tests; however, grading will be determined by completion of assignments in
terms of their quality, thorough coverage of the topics and timeliness. Due dates are assigned for each class
activity.
Course/Program Assessment: Grading is
based on the quality, thoroughness and timeliness of all assignments, along
with class attendance, class participation, group projects and class
activities.
