Description: As an overview of the technologies of
electronic business, this course examines the architecture of the web system,
the attributes of a good website, data interchange, search engines, data
mining, profile building, customer management and intelligent agents. Students examine tools used for website
enhancement including: multimedia, video streaming, creative linking, and
action graphics.
Mission: The student in the accelerated E-business
major will have:
1.
A theoretical understanding of E-business and E-commerce.
2.
Exposure to the common body of knowledge of E-business and
E-commerce.
3.
An understanding of E-business which integrates theory, work
and online experience and their own experiences and those of other
students.
4.
An opportunity to develop and manage a working E-business internet
site.
Purpose: To provide
students with the conceptual and technical background, as well as the essential
vocabulary and tools necessary to effectively navigate the World Wide Web and
begin the design of their personal E-business website.
Objectives: Students who successfully complete this course will
be able to:
1. Develop the ability to evaluate and
reserve domain names
2. Demonstrate
understanding of key definitions and terms used on the World Wide Web.
3. Identify
internet web browser capabilities.
4. Identify
internet addresses, use search engines and the Internet as an information tool.
5. Assess
and evaluate web page design.
6. Discuss tools used in building web sites and the attributes
identifying a good website.
7. Identify
and critique current web development software.

Assignments and Evaluation of Student Work:
Students will be
given exercises and questions from the textbook and the internet to ensure the
comprehension and understanding of the theories and knowledge from the
textbook. Students will be given tasks
to complete in a collaborative setting with an assigned group. The instructor will assign the grade value
for these assignments. They should
demonstrate the student's ability to express their ideas clearly and in a
concise manner. Correct grammar,
spelling and format are expected. The
student will be expected to keep a course journal and submit a weekly journal
report to the instructor.
Students are
expected to attend all classes, make written presentations and actively
participate in the discussions. Students
should be able to answer questions from the instructor and their peers about
their presentations. Students are
expected to share and expand their critical thinking of the subject and offer
substantive information. The instructor
will assign the grade value for this participation.
Course/Program
Assessment: The course will be assessed in accordance
with the stated objectives. Assessment
will occur at the self, peer, and instructor level. Student's performance will be assessed on individual and group
written assignments, discussions, and a web site project.
